Pretty Saro

from The Tailor and the Mouse by Jim Lynch

/

about

Pretty Saro is an English folk ballad originating in the early 1700s. The song died out in England but was rediscovered in the Appalachian Mountains in the early twentieth century, where it had been preserved through oral traditions. I produced this from sheet music, before I heard some of the performances available on Youtube; I totally missed the crushingly sad feeling this song conveys, but I think my version is a fun one.
